Mindfulness in Daily Life Online

Join the Leon County Public Library in partnership with the Tallahassee Chan Center for a series of talks on mindfulness in daily life. Learn from meditation teachers at the Tallahassee Chan Center with guided meditations and reflections on how meditation has impacted their lives in regard to stress relief, improved work efficiency, relaxation of the body, improved relationships and service to others.

This four-part series will be taught by teachers from the Tallahassee Chan Center at the Dr. B.L. Perry Jr. Branch Library and virtually on Zoom.


Socially Engaged Meditation Practice for Equity - March 23
Fran Berry offers a talk on how meditation practice has helped her work with social engagement towards equity. Fran is the board president for the Tallahassee Chan Center and is a Professor in the Askew School of Public Administration and Policy at Florida State University.

How the Mind Affects the Body - March 30
Janette Arispe gives a talk on how meditation has helped her become more peaceful with changes in the body and how she stays in tune with her changing physical conditions. She offers helpful tips on how to continually relax the body to encourage present and peaceful feelings. Janette has served as the Treasurer for many years on the Tallahassee Chan Center board and works for the State of Florida.

Mindful Eating - April 6
Maria Williamson shares helpful tips on how to incorporate mindful meditation practice through eating. By eating mindfully throughout the day, one can renew a sense of appreciation and satisfaction.  Maria is the Vice President of the Tallahassee Chan Center board and worked as a clinical hospital dietitian and retired as a state government bureau chief.

Practicing Meditation while Working - April 13
Sara Khan gives a talk on how to integrate meditation practice with daily life and work. She offers accounts from her own practice and practical tips to incorporate into work. Sara is the executive assistant of the Tallahassee Chan Center, and used to work as a public health informatics consultant.
